A two-month-old baby boy died hours after a ‘whitish substance was found oozing from his ear, prompting an investigation by the authorities.

Police Headquarters reported that Telson Williams died on January 31 at about 17:00hrs in the vicinity of Boa Falls, Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven, while in the care of his mother.

Police said the mother hails from Diamond, East Bank Demerara, but operates a land dredge at Semang Backdam.

The woman told police that the child was in “good health” on January 4; she reportedly left her dredge and returned later on January 29 and the next day, while bathing the child, she observed the “whitish substance oozing from his ear.”

The following day, the child was taken to the Issano Health Post but it was closed; contact was made with the Chief Health Officer who advised that the child be taken to the Bartica Public Hospital the next day.

According to the police, the child’s mother left with him for Semang Landing and while on the way, the child became motionless.

The body is at the Bartica Hospital awaiting an autopsy.
