Five more persons died from COVID-19 taking Guyana’s overall death toll to 1,176, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday.

The latest victims are all from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). They are:

    – a 41-year-old woman (vaccination status unknown)

    – a 63-year-old woman (partially vaccinated)

    – an 80-year-old woman (unvaccinated)

    – an 81-year-old man (vaccination status unknown)

    – an 86-year-old woman (vaccination status unknown)

It should be noted that two of the victims died in January; this means that a total of 115 persons would have died for that month and February has now recorded six deaths.

Meanwhile, 276 new infections were recorded from 1,798 tests, increasing the country’s total confirmed cases to 60,385.

The cases emerged from: Region One (41 cases), Region Two (eight cases), Region Three (22 cases), Region Four (99 cases), Region Five (25 cases), Region Six (23 cases), Region Seven (six cases), Region Nine (50 cases) and Region 10 (two cases).

There are also 12 patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 184 people are in institutional isolation, 17 people are in institutional quarantine and 8,399 people are in home isolation.

Importantly, a total of 50,614 people have recovered after they were infected with the disease.
