Eccles/Ramsburg gets $19.7M recreational facility

The Ministry of Housing and Water on Tuesday handed over a recreational facility, located at Eccles BB, East Bank Demerara to the Eccles/Ramsburg Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).

Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority Sherwyn Greaves did the symbolic key handing over to Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Anand Kaladeen.

Mr. Greaves said this activity is the first of more to come, as several communities across the country including, Parfaite Harmonie (Region Three), Sophia and Herstelling (Region Four) and Amelia’s Ward (Region Ten) will benefit.

Meanwhile, Mr Kaladeen noted his delight at finally being given jurisdiction for the facility, as he spoke of plans for further enhancement.

This project was executed by Prestige Engineering and Support Services and entailed the construction of a chain-link fence and blockwork, eastern and western boundaries inclusive of entrance gates, painting and finishes, and the construction of a full-size basketball court with markings.

Also, the facility boasts of a concrete walkway, sanitary blocks fitted with overhead water tanks, solar LED lighting system and concrete drains, swing sets, slides and monkey bars and ladder and seesaw.

Initially, the project was started by Compustruct Engineering Inc. with an expenditure of $5.2 million but was terminated and completed by Prestige Engineering & Support Services to the tune of $14.3 million.

Also present for the handing over was Deputy Director of the Community Development Department, Mrs Donell Bess-Bascom, who noted the importance of partnership in realising development plans for communities across the country.
