Golden Jaguars’ international friendly tour to Suriname ended with a 1-2 defeat to the hosts on Tuesday evening at the Franklin Essed Stadion, Paramaribo.

Goals either side of the half from Jamilhio Rigters set up the win for Suriname who has extended their dominance with 15 victories over their English-speaking neighbours.

Rigters reached the back of the net in the 13th and seven minutes into the second half; a Trayon Bobb goal in the 89th offered consolation for the Jaguars.

Additionally, their match on January 30 against Barbados had to be stopped after 33 minutes when the fourth official informed the referee of Barbados’ COVID-19 test results.

It is understood that before the start of the game, the Barbados players all had an antigen test which showed that everyone was negative.

The Barbadian team was returning on Monday and as such, a PCR test had to be done and it turned out to be positive for four members of the staff and four players.

Meanwhile, Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz had indicated prior to leaving Guyana, “this is an important exercise to evaluate our players after being out of international football for a while. I am eager to see how the guys carry themselves first in the training over here and then the two matches.”

The Golden Jaguars squad was drawn predominantly from domestic-based players.
