Man, 23, remanded for robbing couple of $14k
A 23-year-old man of Heathburn Village, East Bank Berbice was remanded to prison for reportedly shooting a boat captain and robbing his wife of $14, 000 on January 25.
Simon Davis, a labourer, was arrested on Tuesday and appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with armed robbery.
He appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh and was not required to plea to the charge. He was remanded until February 18, 2022.
The couple, Edward Ramroop, 54, and his wife, Bibi Zulika Ramroop, 57, were left traumatised following the robbery.
Police had reported that two armed bandits stormed the Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice house and shot Edward, and held his wife at knifepoint.
Edward was shot to his right arm and had to undergo surgery.
The wife had told the News Room that she was in the bottom flat of the two-storey house and grocery shop with her six-year-old granddaughter and her husband when the men barged in.
The woman said she heard a gunshot and saw her husband fall to the ground.
According to her, once her husband collapsed, one of the bandits held her at knifepoint and demanded cash and other valuables. The bandits managed to escape with $14,000 in cash.
