    One remanded, two get $250K bail each after found with $1.1M in marijuana

    Two women and a man – Veronica Walker, 54; Neshella Walker, 34 and Simeon Lawson, 30 – appeared before Magistrate Robindranauth Singh at New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Friday to answer to trafficking narcotics charges.

    Veronica pleaded guilty but soon after changed her plea while Neshelle and Simeon pleaded not guilty.

    Bail was refused for Veronica who was remanded to prison until February 15, 2022 while bail was granted in the sum of $250,000 each for Neshelle and Simeon.

    The trio was arrested after $1.1 million worth of marijuana was found at their Rose Hall, Corentyne, home

    According to a Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) statement, CANU ranks acted on information received through a tip-off and carried out an operation at the suspects’ Lot 33 St Paul Street, Rose Hall, Corentyne, Berbice.

    During the operation, a salt bag containing several parcels of suspected cannabis was discovered.

    The trio were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters. It was reported that the suspected narcotics were tested and proved to be marijuana.

    The drug was weighed at a total of 3.868 kilogrammes and carried a street value of $1,160,400.
