Club cricket was on the cusp of making a return to the city this weekend, but rain on Friday night and in the wee hours of Saturday meant those plans by the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) have been put on hold.

A statement on Saturday morning indicated, “Please note that all matches for this weekend 5th and 6th February are cancelled due to the rain. Further information will be provided during the week on the way forward pertaining to these matches.”

Most of the attention was on the First-Division Two-Day semi-finals. Everest Cricket Club (ECC) was scheduled to host defending champions Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), while Police Sports Club (PSC) was down to travel to Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC).

The ECC and DCC game had keen interest, given the quality of players named to participate.

Additionally, there was to be Noble House Seafoods Second Division Two-Day match between Bel Air Rubis and host PSC and a GCA Under-15 practice match at DCC as the association prepares for the Demerara Cricket Board Inter-Association tournament.
