A gold miner of Moruca, Region One, was charged with the capital offence of murder when he appeared in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Ovid Williams appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert and was not required to plea to the charge.
He was remanded to prison until February 28, 2020.
Williams was charged with the murder of another miner, Brian Melville, 42, of Craig, East Bank Demerara.
The incident occurred on January 30 at Balamani Backdam, Cuyuni River at about 18:00hrs.
According to reports, Melville was reportedly attacked by Williams during which he was chopped three times. Police said Williams escaped in the bushes and was arrested a day later along the Puruni Trail. The suspected murder weapon was also found in his possession.
