Statement by H.E. Dr. KJ Srinivasa, High Commissioner of India to Antigua and Barbuda, based in Guyana, on India Under-19 team winning the ICC World Cup for a fifth time

“It’s a time honoured custom where the Indian High Commissioner hosts the visiting team for a reception. This Indian young brigade has really performed very well in the U-19 World Cup being unbeaten in the tournament.

Their positive approach, mature thinking, coming back from adversity where nearly half the team was down with COVID shows that the future of Indian cricket is in great hands.

I look forward to interacting with them tonight.

The event will have the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda Sir Rodney Williams as the chief guest along with yesteryear legends of West Indies cricket like Sir Richie Richardson, Sir Andy Roberts, Sir Curtly Ambrose, etc; ICC and Cricket West Indies officials including President of CWI Ricky Skeritt; diplomatic corps; ministers and other dignitaries; and the Indian Under-19 full team along with BCCI selectors and yesteryear greats like VVS Laxman, Kanitkar, Bahutule etc.

We hope that the event brings together people to congratulate the achievements of our young team and the team will be inspired by the presence of such legends.”
