Unvaccinated woman is latest COVID death; 196 new cases, 15 in ICU

An 89-year-old unvaccinated woman is Guyana’s latest COVID-19 death. The Ministry of Health reported that the woman from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) died on Sunday, February 6.

This means that 11 persons have died in February thus far, while overall a total of 1,181 have died since March 2020.

Meanwhile, a total of 196 new COVID infections were recorded from 1, 690 tests, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 61, 600.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions: Region One (three cases), Region Two (10 cases), Region Three (25 cases), Region Four (109 cases), Region Five (eight cases), Region Six (14 cases) and Region Nine (27 cases).

There are 15 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 119 in institutional isolation and 5, 540 in home isolation.

To date, 54, 745 people have recovered from the virus.
