Police seeking ‘Lucky’ for Christmas Eve murder of ‘Sensei’

Investigations into the Christmas Eve murder of Garfield Newton (Sensei) have progressed with a wanted bulletin issued for another suspect identified as Oneil Halley called “Lucky” for questioning.

According to the bulletin issued by Police Headquarters on Monday, Halley’s last address is listed as West Ruimveldt, Squatting Area, Georgetown.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Oneil Halley is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on telephone numbers 225-3650, 225-3061, 226-1326, 226-9914, 226-9977, 225-8196, 911 or the nearest police station.

The News Room reported that Garfield Newton went to a goldsmith at Campbell Street where he collected jewellery which he had taken to clean. He then headed in a northern direction to motor van GPP 7505 (owned by the company he is employed with) which was parked on Sussex Street, Albouystown.

About five minutes later, the goldsmith was informed by a teenager that Newton was shot and lying on the street. Newton was examined by EMT doctors from the Georgetown Public Hospital who pronounced him dead at the scene.

Thus far, two persons have been charged with his murder; 24-year-old Judah Vickerie called ‘Culture’ of Youth Place, South Ruimveldt and 25-year-old Darren Baley called ‘Fifty’ of Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.

Another suspect, 18-year-old Kevin ‘Lil Boy’ Carter is wanted in connection with the murder.

The police managed to review CCTV footage from nearby homes and businesses, which led to the arrest of the two men. Vickerie reportedly gave a video confession while Baley gave a causation statement about their roles in the crime.
