Unvaccinated woman, 86, among three COVID deaths; 167 new cases
An 86-year-old unvaccinated woman from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) is among Guyana’s latest COVID-19 deaths after she passed away on February 9.
The Ministry of Health reported the woman’s death on Wednesday. A 72-year-old man from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) whose vaccination status is unknown reportedly died on February 7, while an 80-year-old unvaccinated man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) died on February 8.
There have now been 1,188 COVID-19 deaths recorded since the start of the pandemic in March, 2020. And, 17 of those deaths have been recorded during this month so far.
Meanwhile, another 167 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus over a 24-hour period. With these additional cases, the number of confirmed infections in Guyana since March 11, 2020 has increased to 61,901.
These new infections were recorded from: Region One (28 cases), Region Two (13 cases), Region Three (19 cases), Region Four (62 cases), Region Five (two cases), Region Six (five cases), Region Seven (three cases), Region Eight (one case), Region Nine (14 cases) and Region 10 (20 cases).
There are also 17 patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 98 people in institutional isolation, 25 people in institutional quarantine and 3,289 people in home isolation.
Importantly, a total of 57,309 people have recovered after they were infected with the disease.
