The construction of the first 100 homes at Williamsburg/Hampshire, East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six) are progressing under the Ministry of Housing & Water – Central Housing & Planning Authority (CHPA).

The homes, which are being built at a total cost of $750 million, are currently at various stages of completion. Measuring 20 feet by 30 feet (600 square feet), these are two bedroom flat units with living room and washroom facilities.

Over 200 persons including youths have so far been employed as skilled and unskilled workers by contractors executing the project, while most of the building and construction materials are being sourced from suppliers within the region. A number of the contractors have since voiced their appreciation to the government for reviving the economic activities in the region and noted that they expect to employ more persons as the project continues.

In addition to job creation, transportation, food, services and other sectors have also seen a major boost in revenue due to the ongoing development. {Ministry of Housing and Water statement]
