A 45-year-old man of Cummings Street, Georgetown, was killed after the ATV he was on collided with a truck in North West District, Region One. Dead is Nigel Knights; he was a pillion rider. Another pillion rider identified as 39-year-old Leslie Norton is in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at about 11:00hrs along the Eye Lash Access Road. The ATV was being driven by Rovin James, 36, of Charity, Essequibo Coast.
According to reports, the ATV was speeding down a hill when James lost control and collided with the truck GZZ 4598. The truck was being driven by Ryan Vanlange, 38, of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.
As a result of the collision, Knights, Norton and James were flung off the ATV and fell on the road.
Knights was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Norton was in a semi-conscious state and was later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital via a private aircraft.
Police said James and Vanlange have been served with notices of intended prosecution as investigations continue.
James was also arrested and taken to Matthew’s Ridge Police Station.
