Almost two years after the COVID-19 virus hit these shores in March 2020, the national COVID curfew that was instituted was finally lifted.

The announcement was made by the National COVID-19 Task Force on Friday with immediate effect.

Thus far, the country has recorded 1,188 deaths and 62, 061 cases.

Additionally, the Task Force announced that all swimming pools are permitted to operate at 50 per cent capacity; but all swimmers must be fully vaccinated.

Notwithstanding these relaxations of the measures, the Task Force urges all Guyanese to demonstrate responsible behaviour and extend best wishes for the upcoming Mashramani celebrations.

Meanwhile, a day before the curfew was lifted, President Irfaan Ali reasoned that many studies have shown that lockdowns and curfews do little to curb the spread of COVID-19 virus.
