Big bucks for Pooran, Holder and Hetmyer at IPL Auction

Wicketkeeper/batsman Nicholas Pooran on Saturday copped the highest-ever bid by a West Indian at an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, with Sunrisers Hyderabad shelling out INR 10.75 crore (US$1.43 million) for the Trinidadian.

It is the third IPL franchise for the 26-year-old, who previously played for Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab.

Moments earlier, Jason Holder held the record by a West Indian with the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants securing the Bajan all-rounder for INR 8.75 crore (US$1.16 million).

Holder previously had stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.

Guyanese batsman Shimron Hetmyer was snapped up by Rajasthan Royals for INR 8.5 crore or US$1.13 million.

There was a bidding war between Hetmyer’s previous franchise Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals for the Berbician left-hander. The 25-year-old also had a stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
