Alex Douglas on Monday admitted to stabbing his reputed wife, Allison Bowen, to death in 2012 during a domestic dispute at their Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara home.

Douglas was arraigned before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall at the Georgetown High Court and admitted that on October 14, 2012, he murdered Bowen and wounded her sister, Nicola King on the same date.

Justice Kissoon deferred sentencing until March 3, 2022.

Douglas was represented by attorney Latchmie Rahamat while the state was represented by prosecutor Abigail Gibbs.

According to reports, Douglas was abusive and would often assault Bowen, a mother of three.

On the day in question, the two had an argument and Douglas chased Bowen and forced her to eat some rat poison.

When the woman refused, Douglas pulled out a knife and stabbed her several times. King was also injured during the attack when she attempted to save her sister.

After committing the crime, Douglas ingested rat poison in an attempt to commit suicide and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated.

A post-mortem examination performed on the woman revealed that she was stabbed nine times to the back, hand, heart and left hand.
