Unvaccinated woman, 80, dies from COVID; 18 new cases

An 80-year-old unvaccinated woman from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) died on February 20 and has been recorded as Guyana’s latest COVID-19 death.

There have now been 1, 211 COVID-19 deaths recorded since the start of the pandemic in March, 2020. And, 40 of those deaths were recorded during this month so far.

Meanwhile, another 18 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus over a 24-hour period. With these additional cases, the number of confirmed infections in Guyana since March 11, 2020 has increased to 62,656

These new infections were recorded from: Region One (one case), Region Two (two cases), Region Three (three cases), Region Four (one case), Region Five (two cases), Region Six (four cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Nine (one case) and Region 10 (three cases).

There are also seven patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 69 people are in institutional isolation, four people are in institutional quarantine and 865 people are in home isolation.

Importantly, a total of 60,504 people have recovered after they were infected with the disease.
