Chinese national Wang Xui Feng and two taxi drivers were on Monday remanded to prison for attempting to traffic 19 pounds of cocaine through a Georgetown mailing service.
Weng, 26; Bernard Persaud, 41; and Godfrey Neblette, 40, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
With the aid of a translator, Weng pleaded not guilty along with the two taxi drivers; it is alleged that on February 11, 2022, at DHL Express, Alberttown, Georgetown, they had 8.8 kilograms of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Weng was remanded to prison until March 17 while the others were remanded until March 8, 2022.
According to reports, the cocaine was concealed in a box that contained six small boxes of juices and packs of biscuits.
On the day in question, Weng along with the two others went to DHL Express with the intention of shipping the package to China.
The box was searched by a Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) rank at the mailing service when the discovery was made.
CANU said the cocaine has a street value of GY$4.4 million.
