Guyana’s senior national Women’s football team, the Lady Jags, continued their impressive run in the Concacaf Women’s World Cup qualifiers at the weekend, thumping the Turks and Caicos Islands 7-0.

In Group F action, the Lady Jags completely annihilated their opponents, scoring at regular intervals.

Mariam El-Masri led the charge with a hat-trick, scoring in the 48th, 61st and 84th minutes.

Cameo Hazlewood, who opened the scoring in the 10th minute, added another in the 40th, while Hannah Baptiste struck twice as well, in the 30th and 72nd minutes.

In their opening game, the Lady Jags inflicted a 4-0 defeat on Dominica at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora, West Coast Demerara, Guyana.

With those two commanding victories and being the only team in the Group yet to concede a goal, the Lady Jags are atop of Group F, while Trinidad and Tobago, also unbeaten after two matches, are in second spot based on goal difference.

The other teams in the Group- Nicaragua, Dominica and Turks and Caicos- are all bunched at the bottom of the table without a point.

Guyana’s next game is against Nicaragua on April 8.

Notable, only the top side will progress to the next phase of the qualifiers, which also act as a gateway to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
