Two persons are now injured after a car crashed into a restaurant located along the public road of Main Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice on Sunday night.
Regional Commander Boodnarine Persaud told the News Room that the accident occurred just around 22:00 hrs while persons were still dining at the location.
The News Room was informed that the car, a Toyota 212, was being driven by a man who lost control and crashed into the restaurant, completely destroying the front glass of the building.
Several persons, who were also sitting outside, managed to escape by running away after they observed the car heading towards them at a fast rate.
The owner of the car is in police custody; the News Room understands that the driver fled the scene.
