CANU Officers shot at while intercepting car with $17M worth of ganja

Ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) came under fire during a narcotics operation at #69 village Corentyne, Berbice on Tuesday.

They were attempting to intercept a car when two male occupants exited and opened fire on them before fleeing.

No one was hurt and the operation resulted in the seizure of 58.8 kg (129.6 lbs) of cannabis and one vehicle with the registration number PKK 4588.

The cannabis seized is believed to have been intended for transshipment to Suriname and had a street value of GY$17.6 million.
