Speeding driver crashes into concrete fence after swerving from horse

A 31-year-old man of Lovely Lass, West Coast Berbice is in a stable condition at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after suffering head injuries in an accident on the Mahaicony public road, East Coast Demerara on Wednesday morning.

Injured is Derrol Cummings who was driving motorcar PZZ 2022. Police Headquarters reported that the young man was speeding east along the De Kinderen public road, Mahaicony when he claimed that he saw a horse standing in the center of the road at around 04:50hrs.

Cummings told the cops that he tried to avoid a collision by pulling further north but he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the concrete fence.

Two persons who were in the car – Shamar Abrams, 22, of Canal Number One, West Bank Demerara and Rodwyn Pryce, 23, of Lovely Lass – received injuries about their bodies.

They were all taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where the occupants were treated and sent away while Cummings was admitted.

Police said Cummings later took self-discharge and went to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he is now a patient.

Investigations are ongoing.
