    A 13-year-old boy reportedly drowned during a birthday celebration at the Jubilee Resort at Timehri, East Bank Demerara, on Wednesday.

    Dead is Ray Stuart Jnr., of Robb Street, Georgetown. Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 11:00hrs.

    Police said that Ray, known as ‘Junior’ did not know how to swim and was celebrating his 13th birthday with his father and other relatives at the pool.

    According to the police, the child ventured into the deeper end of the pool and went under without anyone noticing. Police did not state whether there was a lifeguard present at the pool.

    “After his father observed him missing, he raised an alarm and other relatives began searching for him, in and out of the pool,” police said.

    The teen’s lifeless body was found under the water by a relative and ranks from the Timehri Police Station were called in. The teen was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre by his father where he was pronounced dead.

    Police said no marks of violence were observed on the body. The body is now a t the Memorial Gardens Mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted.

    Investigations are ongoing.
