A hire car driver identified as 18-year-old Prakash Salvador called ‘Bolo’ died on Thursday morning after he crashed into a barricade and fence at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at about 08:15hrs in the vicinity of Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL). Police said the teenager was speeding at the time of the accident; he was proceeding south when he lost control and ended up on the eastern side of the road.
The News Room understands that Salvador, also from Diamond, was out partying with friends the night before the horrific accident.
A friend told the News Room that Salvador picked him up and later dropped him home; the friend said he did not know where Salvador was headed after.
In a video seen by the News Room, the car was completely wrecked with part of the concrete barricade lodged in the front of the vehicle.
Salvador was taken to the hospital in an unconscious state by public-spirited persons and died while receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, the police is urging persons to exercise extreme caution on the roadways, especially during the rainy season.
