Sherwayne Brandt called ‘Brave’ was on Thursday remanded to prison for the fatal shooting of his son-in-law Leon Gittens called “Gully Side.”
Brandt appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with the capital offence of murder.
He was not required to enter a plea to the charge which alleged that on February 19, 2022, at Freeman Street, East La Penitence in Georgetown, he murdered Gittens, 25.

The Chief Magistrate remanded Brandt to prison until March 22, 2022.
According to reports, Brandt had reportedly threatened Gittens last month to stay away from his daughter and on the day in question, he was shot after he went to pick up the young lady at Freeman Street.
Brandt had reportedly disguised himself as a woman during the shooting; he was wearing a blue dress and a wig.
The girlfriend reportedly told the police that it was her father who shot Gittens. She said she hid from her father but heard three loud explosions that sounded like gunshots.
Soon after, Brandt escaped and Gittens was found lying in front of a bedroom. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and pronounced dead.
Brandt was arrested later the same day at the Eugene Correia International Airport, Ogle, East Coast Demerara while attempting to flee the country.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum had told the News Room that Brandt had booked a flight to the United States with an in-transit in Trinidad and Tobago.
“He was blacklisted after the initial stage of the investigation. He was going to Trinidad and then the US,” the Crime Chief revealed.
