Parliament employee dies in Friendship accident

Michael Munroe, the head of the Library Department of Guyana’s Parliament, died in an accident on the Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara on Thursday evening.

Police Headquarters reported that Munroe, 52, of Diamond, East Bank Demerara was speeding south along the eastern side of the road in his pickup (PRR 2609) when he lost control and crashed into motor lorry GAB 1835, which was proceeding in the opposite direction.

Munroe was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead.

The body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home where it awaits an autopsy. The News Room understands that Munroe has more than 10 years of service at the Parliament Buildings.

The accident occurred at around 18:10hrs. The driver of the truck has been identified as 21-year-old Sachin Singh Mohanlall of Fernandes Street, Linden Highway.

He tested negative for alcohol in his system.
