Taxi driver stabbed during robbery dies

Insaf Zakir, called ‘Gaddafi’, has died hours, after he was stabbed multiple times during a robbery on Monday night.

The 26-year-old taxi driver of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, was reportedly robbed by two men and a woman with a baby.

Relatives confirmed to the News Room that Zakir succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Tuesday.

Police had reported that the incident occurred at about 21:10hrs at Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara.

Zakir had told police that he was at the Tuschen car park when he was approached by an identifiable female holding a baby and two identifiable males; they requested to be taken to Best Village, West Coast Demerara.

As they were in the vicinity of Crane Housing Scheme, the male, who was seated behind the driver, grabbed him by the neck and demanded that he hand over his valuables.

Zakir resisted and was stabbed several times to the chest. The other male then relieved him of his Samsung Galaxy A20 cell phone, valued G$48,000.

The perpetrators then escaped on foot.
