A businessman of Belle Plaine, Wakeenaam, Region Three is counting his losses after his business went up in flames in the wee hours of Sunday.
Anil Rambarran was rushed to the Wakenaam Cottage hospital after experiencing a spike in his blood pressure.
The fire reportedly occurred around 03;00hrs, gutting the building that housed Anil’s Liquor and Variety store.
According to reports, Rambarran resides upstairs and operates a variety store and a speedboat service on the lower flat.
He is a well-known businessman on the island.
“If you see flames raging, we all woke up and everyone trying to get it out the community came out but it was too late,” an eyewitness recalled.
It remains unclear the extent of the losses or how the blaze started.
Police and fire investigators are currently at the scene.
