
Jamaul John wins Burnham Memorial road race
The annual Burnham Memorial cycling road race was held on Sunday morning with Team Foundation’s top rider Jamaul John emerging victorious.
The race started at 07:30h on Carifesta Avenue, proceeded to Belfield and return to the start point, covering a distance of 37 miles. It was held in memory of the late President of Guyana, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham, and attracted 48 starters.
John was the first to cross the line in Georgetown in an exciting nine-man sprint, with Lyn Murray finishing second. John stopped the clock at one hour, 11 minutes, 23.44 seconds.
Other category winners were Alexander Leung (Juniors), Lyn Murray (Veterans Under-50), Ian Jackson (Veterans Over-50) and Marica Dick (Females).
The race was sponsored by the Burnham Foundation and organised by Flying Stars Cycling Club.
