Guyana’s Lady Jags suffered yet another 5-0 defeat at the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship being staged in the Dominican Republic.

On Monday, Lady Jags lost to Mexico 5-0, and on Wednesday, they went down by an identical margin to Panama.

However, providing Honduras who are winless, does not defeat Mexico tonight (Wednesday, March 2), they will still progress to the round of 16 stage.

Guyana had started the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Honduras.

The top three teams from each of the four groups will progress to Round of 16, alongside four additional qualifiers.

An own goal via Hasha Holder in just the second minute place the Latin American unit ahead, and it took only six more minutes for Hilary Jaén to extend the lead.

Shayari Camarena created a further cushion for Panama at the halfway stage with a goal in the 40th. Elibeth Vásquez eteched her name in the score book in the 54th while Camarena completed her brace in the 60th.

Guyana is making its second consecutive appearance at the regional championship, having reached the quarter-finals in its first outing at this level in 2020 – just two games shy of qualifying for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
