Guyana off to winning start at Caribbean Table Tennis Championship
The trio of Christopher Franklin, Shemar Britton and Jonathan Van Lange gave Guyana a winning start in the Men’s team event at the ongoing Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championship in Cuba.
Guyana defeated Haiti 3-1, compliments of wins by Britton and Van Lange.
Franklin, the current national champion went down 2-3 (12-10, 7-11, 11-5, 12-10, 5-11) to Donika St. Fleur in the first match, but Britton and Van Lange then made light work of their opponents.
Britton won 11-5, 11-6, 11-7 over Mackentoche Paul, while Van Lange, at his first senior Caribbean event, topped Brayon Azor 11-4, 11-9.
The southpaw Britton then returned to defeat St. Fleur 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9.
The trio will be back in action today from 18:15h (Guyana time) with a match-up against the hosts, while the Women open their campaign against Puerto Rico.
