Lyton Hendricks, a 58-year-old porter, from the Pomeroon River died on Wednesday after being pinned under a tractor laden with wood.

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred around 07:30hrs at Ampa Bay Trail, East Bank Essequibo (EBE); the unregistered tractor and trailer was being driven by Reaz Khan, 24, of Parika, EBE.

Police said the tractor was heading west on the trail with Hendricks sitting on top of the wooden posts. The trailer’s right wheel reportedly entered a hole causing it to swing right and topple, pinning the porter underneath.

Public spirited persons rushed to his aid and pulled him out; he was taken to the Ampa Bay Boat landing and later transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The body was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral home awaiting an autopsy.

Police said the driver was placed in custody.
