Shemar Britton is now Guyana’s lone chance of securing an individual medal at this year’s senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championship in Cuba after he progressed to the quarter-final stage.

The 2018 Caribbean Under-21 gold medalist defeated Barbadian Kevin Farley 4-1 (10-12, 11-9, 11-5, 11-8, 12-10), and now moves on to play Puerto Rico’s Daniel Gonzalez from 18:15h on Monday for a spot in the medal rounds.

National Men’s champion, Christopher Franklin, lost his Round-of-16 match to Cuba’s Adrian Perez after he had to retire due to injury.

Perez won the first set 11-1 and Franklin bounced back to win 11-9. The third set went Perez’s way 11-4 after which Franklin forfeited the match due to injury.

Britton and Franklin were the only two players to reach the knockout stage of the individual aspect of the competition.

In the Team competition last week, both the male and female teams won bronze medals after semi-final exits.
