The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) has received the nod of approval from the National COVID-19 Task Force to host Circuit and Drag Racing events later this month.

Circuit racing is scheduled for March 13 while drag racing is on March 27, both at the South Dakota Circuit, and they come off the heels of the Endurance Meet on February 20.

Just like the Endurance Meet which had no spectators, the same will apply for circuit racing, however, conditional approval was granted for a limited amount of spectators to attend the drag racing meet.

The GMR&SC President, Rameez Mohamed in an invited comment stated, “We are happy to be given the approval to host our events. It is public knowledge that since 2020, the pandemic has affected our usual programme but we are now taking the gradual and safe steps to restart motor racing in Guyana.”

Mohamed added, “We had an incident-free Endurance Meet; the guys got to test their machines, and now we will have circuit racing. Those two events should give us enough time to test our logistical strength in order to have the safest measures in place for the return of fans on March 27. We will continue to work very closely with the Task Force to ensure that all patrons, drivers, and other stakeholders are in a safe environment come March 27.”

The limited tickets on sale for the drag racing cost $2,000 for an adult and a child under the age of 12 cost $500.

The club will commence selling tickets at their Thomas Lands and Albert Street base from March 23.
