Godfrey Gill known as ‘Chucky’ has confessed to the 2016 brutal killing and robbery of 76-year-old David Ramkissoon.

Gill, 27, formerly of Prince William Street Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was arraigned before Justice Simone Ramlall at the Demerara High Court for the capital offence of murder.

However, he pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter. The charge stated that on August 21, 2016, Gill unlawfully killed Ramkissoon.

Gill is represented by attorney-at-law Dexter Smartt while the State is represented by prosecutor Caressa Henry. Sentencing is deferred until March 24, 2022.

Gill’s co-accused Sherwin is currently on remand awaiting his High Court trial.

On August 21, 2016, Ramkissoon was found with his throat slit in his Better Hope, ECD home and the armed robbers escaped with jewellery and cash.

Detectives who visited the scene on the day of the murder saw footprints in the mud at the back of the pensioner’s yard leading to an alleyway. Along with the footprints, they spotted drops of blood that led to a shack located a short distance from the slain man’s house.
