A 22-year-old man was on Thursday remanded to prison for the murder of 24-year old Alex Williams, a mason of Rampersaud Street, No.2 Village, East Canje, Berbice, who was chopped to death on Sunday last.
Imran Khan, known as ‘Germs’ of Fort Ordinance, East Canje, made his appearance at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh to answer to the charge of murder.
He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison until April 5, 2022.
Meanwhile, police on Wednesday arrested the main suspect identified as 24-year-old Jelon Benny known as ‘Blackboy’; he was found in a house at No. 65 Village, Corentyne, Berbice at around 21:50hrs.
Benny, a construction worker, remain in police custody at the No. 51 Police Station.
Williams was chopped to death at approximately 00:30 hrs on March 13 during a brawl on the No.2 Public Road, in front of a liquor shop. He was pronounced dead at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
