Nadir, Jones to speak at Int’l Parliament forum on climate change
Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir will be leading a delegation from Guyana to participate in the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), in Nusa Dua, Indonesia, from March 20 – 24, 2022.
The Assembly’s theme this year is: ‘Getting to Zero: Mobilizing Parliaments to act on climate change.’
Both Nadir and Opposition Chief Whip Christopher Jones will address the more than 2,000 delegates during the General Debate which spans all four days.
Other members of the Guyana delegation include Attorney General Anil Nandlall, Minister of Public Service Sonia Parag, Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Opposition Member of Parliament Dawn Hastings-Williams, Clerk of the National Assembly Sherlock Isaacs, Parliamentary Executive Officer Carlleta Charles, Public Relations Assistant Alanzo Scipio, and Juleanna Chatterpaul who is the Confidential Secretary to the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly.
According to a statement from the Parliament Office on Saturday, all statutory bodies of the IPU are expected to sit at this year’s Assembly.

Nadir will be joined by Nandlall and Hastings-Williams on the Governing Council, where consideration will be given to, inter alia, strengthening accountability and relations between IPU and the United Nations, reports on the work of the IPU for 2021, and future meetings and operations of the IPU.
Minister Parag as a Member of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development of the IPU will seek to address the advancement of technology in the education sector, giving special emphasis on the current pandemic.
All female delegates will be participating in the Forum for Women Parliamentarians, where the discussion will deal with the experiences of female Members of Parliament in promoting women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health in a time of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Isaacs is slated to also participate in the Association of Secretaries General of Parliament Meetings at this Assembly.
The 144th Assembly is expected to conclude with the adoption of an outcome document on the overall theme of the General Debate.
