23-Y-0 busted with illegal guns, ammo, millions in cash for court tomorrow

A 23-year-old government employee who was caught with illegal guns, ammunition and millions of dollars in cash at the Ministry of Health Drugs Bond at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, is expected to be charged soon.

This is according to Regional Commander Senior Superintendent Mahendra Siwnarine. He told the News Room on Tuesday that the storage attendant is expected to make his appearance at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The two other suspects who were arrested also have been released from custody. The three men, who are employees attached to the Ministry of Health, were arrested on Monday during a sting operation.

“We would have received certain information and as such a sting operation was launched and that is how it led us to the same person and the money,” Commander Siwnarine told the News Room.

The storage attendant was nabbed with two pistols, ammunition and over $4.5 million in cash. The News Room understands that he reportedly stole drugs and supplies from the bond and sold them.

When the police arrived at the scene to investigate, they searched the young man’s car – PAB 3032 – and found a duffel bag with the illegal weapons and cash stored inside.

According to the police, while being questioned about the items, the storage attendant reportedly offered to bribe the police with $1.7 million in cash. Police found in his possession a total of $4.58 million in cash.
