Man, 30, dies in NA accident; pillion rider hospitalised with head injuries

An accident on Main Street and Kent Streets, New Amsterdam (East Berbice-Corentyne) on Tuesday night has claimed the life of 30-year-old Joshua Inshanally of Adelphi, East Canje Berbice while his friend, 28-year-old Karran Rambarrat is hospitalised with severe head injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The News Room understands that Inshanally was driving motorcycle CL 327 south along the road with Rambarrat as the pillion rider when he swerved into the path of a truck (GWW 9178) that was proceeding in the opposite direction at around 23:00hrs.

Both men fell off the motorcycle and sustained injuries to the head and other parts of their bodies. Reports indicate that they were picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Both were referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Inshanally succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

The police have since accessed CCTV footage of the accident. The driver of the truck is in police custody.
