The search for Suraj Dhaneshwar, a fisherman of Railway Line, Rosignol, West Coast Berbice, is now at a standstill after relatives have been unable to procure a vessel for some days now.

Dhaneshwar has been missing for over a week after the boat he was in capsized while fishing off the coast of Bath Settlement. The captain of the boat, identified as Oneil Deputron, managed to survive the incident.

The missing man’s sister, Omawattie Dhaneshwar, told the News Room that the last time the search party went out was Saturday last.

“Nobody don’t want to lend a boat to go out.

“We asking for the Coast Guard boat to go out with the family but we didn’t have any response,” the distraught sister explained.

According to Omawattie, when they contacted the police, they were told that once the family can provide a vessel, two officers will accompany them on the search.

The family has lost hope that Dhaneshwar may still be alive and is now trying to recover his body.

“It is really hard right about now, if he died his soul must rest in peace,” Omawattie said.

She revealed that since Dhaneshwar went missing on March 16, relatives would wait at the Three Door Sluice Wharf every day, hoping that one of the vessels coming in would bring positive news.

He was reportedly clinging to an icebox when the boat capsized. The icebox has been recovered but so far, no signs of the fisherman.

He left his home a day before the incident. Dhaneshwar is a 28-year-old father of a two-year-old boy. He has been a fisherman for the past five years and previously worked as a fisherman in Suriname and the Rosignol Fishing Complex.
