Sergeant dies after crashing car into shop at Lusignan

Police Sergeant Kwame Kellman died after crashing his car into a shop at the Lusignan Public Road, ECD

A 34-year old Police Sergeant Kwame Kellman died at the scene of an accident at the Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) just before midnight last night.

Police Headquarters revealed that Kellman, who was stationed at the Grove Police Station, ECD, was driving PYY 3730 east on the northern side of the road when he lost control and crashed into a shop which is situated on the northern side.

The accident occurred at around 23:55hrs. Police said the impact of the collision caused him to receive injuries about his body.

Public-spirited citizens went to his rescue and took him out of the car but by then, he had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr Sampson of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Kellman, who resided at Vigilance, ECD was transported to Jerrick’s Funeral Home where it awaits a post mortem examination.

“The Commissioner of Police extends condolences to the family, relatives and colleagues of the late policeman and reiterates the Traffic Chief’s plea for all road users to exercise the five Cs of road use at all times,” Police Headquarters noted.
