Guyanese batsman Shimron Hetmyer was among the runs as Rajasthan Royals started their IPL campaign with a commanding 61-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday in Pune.

Hetmyer struck a breezy 32 off 13 balls, including three sixes and two fours, as Rajasthan piled up 210-6 with skipper Sanju Samson topscoring with 55 off 27 balls.

Devdutt Padikkal made 41 and Jos Buttler 35, with Umran Malik and Thangarasu Natarajan taking two wickets each and Guyanese Romario Shepherd claiming 1-33 on debut.

In reply, Sunrisers slipped to 9-3 and then 78-6 before recovering to post 149-7. Aiden Markram made 57 not out, Washington Sundar 40 off 14 and Shepherd 24 off 18.

Leggie Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 3-22, while there were two wickets each for Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna.

IPL action continues on Wednesday with Royal Challengers Bangalore playing Kolkata Knight Riders from 10:00h.
