Seven persons including four children are now homeless following a fire that ravaged their Zorgen-Hoop, No.4 Settlement, Blairmont, West Coast Berbice house on Wednesday.

Sunita Ramotar, 22, the mother of four children, including a three-year-old, disclosed that she lived there with her husband, her sickly father-in-law and her children.

She said her husband left for work and shortly after, around 08:00 hrs, she left for the clinic at Rosignol, leaving three of her children and father-in-law at home.

Approximately 30 to 45 minutes later, she received a telephone call from a neighbour informing her that the house was on fire; she said she rushed home but by the time she arrived, the two bedroom flat was already consumed by the blaze.

The children and her father-in-law were rushed to safety by neighbours before the entire building was engulfed in flames.

Ramotar said when she inquired what happened, her eldest child told her that the three-year-old found a lighter and set the mattress in their bedroom on fire.

“We don’t have anything, everything burn out and we deh by a neighbour right now but I don’t know where we are going to stay as yet,” Ramotar told the News Room tearfully.

An estimated $4 million, inclusive of furnishings, were destroyed but Ramotar has indicated that she is open to any assistance from persons.

Those desirous of providing help in any way can contact her on 660-7968.
