Five persons are in the custody of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) following the discovery of 25lbs of cocaine and a quantity of multi-coloured pills suspected to be ecstasy at Lot 295 Shantiniketan Street, Prashad Nagar Georgetown on Tuesday.
A press release from CANU noted that those in custody are Lena Narine known as ‘Aunty Lena’, 62; James Herbert known as ‘Uncle James’, 60; Kay Jennifer Butcher, 71; Jamal Narine known as ‘Tunks’, 27; and Gregory Faria, 47, a Surinamese national.
According to CANU, the cocaine has an estimated street value of approximately GY$12.5 million while the suspected ecstasy weighed 266 grams and has a street value of approximately GY$400,000.
