IPL: RCB prevail in nail-biting thriller with Knight Riders

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got their first points of IPL 2022, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a low-scoring nail-biter on Wednesday. After an opening defeat to Punjab Kings after making 205, RCB prevailed by three wickets with four balls to spare after KKR were dismissed for 128 in 18.5 overs.

Only Andre Russell got going for KKR, striking three sixes in 25 off 18, as Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga (4-20), Akash Deep (3-45) and Harshal Patel (2-11) led the bowling effort for RCB.

In reply, RCB slipped to 17-3 and though a recovery was followed by another cluster of wickets, they managed to sneak home in the last over.

Sherfane Rutherford soaked up 40 balls for his topscore of 28, while Shahbaz Ahmed made 27. Dinesh Karthik, who struck a six off the first ball of the final over with seven needed, ended on 14.

Bowling for KKR, Tim Southee took 3-20 and Umesh Yadav 2-16.

IPL action continues on Thursday with Lucknow Super Giants facing Chennai Super Kings from 10:00h.
