Girl, 15, seriously injured after drunk driver U-Turns causing 4-vehicle accident
A 15-year-old girl identified as Vidya Ishmail is in a serious condition at a hospital after the car she was in made a U-Turn at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara and crashed into three other vehicles Wednesday night.
Police Headquarters reported that 35-year-old Kemraj Narine, the driver of the car (PTT 8247) was way over the legal limit of alcohol (174% micrograms) when he turned into the lane of motorcar HC 5103 and collided.
As a result, HC 5103, owned and driven by 41-year-old Satyanand Singh of Canal # 2, West Bank Demerara, collided with motorcar PYY131 which was proceeding west on the southern side of the road.
The cars then crashed into motorcar PLL 797 – owned by Dexter Clarke – which was stationary on the northern parapet of the said road. The accident occurred at around 22:00hrs.
Police said Narine and the other occupants sustained injuries and were assisted by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in a conscious state via ambulance.
They were all discharged except the 15-year-old girl who resides at Pouderoyen, WBD.
Investigations are ongoing.
