West Indies opener Evin Lewis produced a blistering innings as Lucknow Super Giants aced a huge run-chase against Chennai Super Kings in Match Seven of the IPL on Thursday.
Set a stiff target of 211, Super Giants were left needing 34 off the final 12 deliveries and the left-handed Lewis turned the game in his team’s favour with 4,4,6 off the final three balls of the 19th over.
That over, bowled by Shivam Dube, yielded 25 runs, and in the process Lewis brought up his fifty off 23 balls.
He finished on 55 off 23 (6x4s, 3x4s), batting at number four, as Super Giants got home by six wickets with three balls remaining. Ayush Badoni partnered Lewis to the end with 19* off nine balls.
Opener Quinton de Kock earlier made 61 off 45 and KL Rahul 40 off 26, as Dwaine Pretorius took 2-31.
Super Kings’ 210-7 was built on an even-fifty off 27 balls from Robin Uthappa, while Dube scored 49 off 30 and Moeen Ali 35 off 22.
Ravi Bishnoi (2-24), Avesh Khan (2-38) and Andrew Tye (2-40) were the leading wicket-takers for Super Giants.
