This weekend’s ‘Skills for Cash’ 7-a-side Football tournament has received more corporate support, with MVP Sports committing to the third place cash prize and accompanying trophy.

Co-organisers of the tournament, Lynton Luke and Virgil Watts were on hand to receive the sponsorship from Ian Ramdeo, the proprietor of MVP Sports at its Giftland Mall branch.

Ramdeo said the entity, which has another location in the Amazonia Mall, is pleased to support grassroot sport activities. Ramdeo wished the organisers well in their endeavours.

Both Luke and Watts expressed appreciation for the support, noting it will go a far way in making the event a success.

Luke and Watts are coordinating the competition through Cool Crew Promotion and Virgil Watts Construction. The tournament is in its third edition, having missed the last two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament, title sponsored by Guyana Breweries Inc., through its 592 Beer brand, will start on Saturday (April 2) at the Number Five Ground, West Coast Berbice.

Cougars, Rosignol United, Monnederlust United, Hopetown, Number 30 Village, Number 42 Village, Paradise United, Airy Hall, Mahaica Determinators, Ann’s Grove United, Victoria Kings United, Golden Stars, Paradise and Melanie FC will compete for the tournament’s first-place prize of G$300,000.

The second-place team will pocket G$200,000, third place G$200,000 and fourth place G$50,000.

Luke explained that “teams are allowed three guest players to help strengthen the side. We also have games playing in different venues on the West Coast and East Coast of Berbice.”

Matches will be played at the Number Five Village ground, Rosignol ground and Victoria Community Centre ground.
