Chairman of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and Executive Member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R) Daniel Seeram was on Thursday released on $20,000 bail for allegedly threatening his father-in-law with a gun during a heated argument.

Seeram, 31, appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court, East Coast of Demerara and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Particulars of the charge alleged that on March 6, 2022, at MovieTowne, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Seeram made use of threatening behaviour towards Shaheed Hamid.

Seeram was represented by attorney Roysdale Forde, SC, who made an application for bail.

The Magistrate released Seeram on $20,000 bail and adjourned the matter until April 21, 2022.

The former Guyana Defence Force (GDF) captain was scheduled to make his first court appearance last week Thursday but he did not show up and claimed he was out of town and was only informed that he had to appear hours before.

According to reports, on March 06, Seeram and his father-in-law had a misunderstanding while at MovieTowne. It is alleged that Seeram, who is a licensed firearm holder, pulled out his gun and cranked it on his father-in-law who is also a licensed firearm holder.

Seeram was escorted out of the premises by security personnel. Hamid, 50, later reported the matter to the Turkeyen Police Station.
